What a fantastic day.
I cannot praise Ben any further!
He was courteous to all the staff and incredibly engaging with the children.
He was also more than happy to go above and beyond, talking to parents in the playground, sitting with the children at lunch.
Please say a massive thank you from us.

Thank you so much for your visit on Monday- it was brilliant. The children really were enthralled by your Romans! They are still talking about the Roman toilet and they loved the boys versus girls fight in the hall. It's really bought the subject alive for them.

We had a fantastic time! Caius was both entertaining and hugely informative for the children and everyone loved every minute. Thank you so much for giving the children such a memorable day.

You can expect alot of letters in the post from the children in the next few days - all in one envelope!- telling you how much they enjoyed themselves or written as if they themselves were Romans.

Thank you again and I hope that we will get the chance to repeat the experience for another class in future,

Yours sincerely,

Janette Moore (Class 4 Teacher)  FEB 2015

I just wanted to let you know what a great day my year 3 class had with Gaius. The high quality resources and hands on experiences engaged all of the children including those with SEN and EAL . It was a great way to start our topic on Romans.

We had a visit last year too and I like the way that you have developed the sessions to include more visuals and whiteboard resources. Gaius was really good to work with and was kind enough to leave me some resources that I will be able to use for the rest of the Y3 unit of work on Roman. I hope we get the chance to work with him again next year.

I am just writing to give you some feedback from our Roman soldier visit yesterday.

I would like to start by saying how impressed I was with Gary. He arrived early in order to give himself plenty of time to set up and agreed to start early (as our school starts at 8.40). He also decided to give up his lunch to go and sit in the canteen with the children, which really did make their day. He was prepared and knowledgeable and a good asset to your team.

The Workshop itself contained lots of information that really did grip the children and they were really intrigued about finding out more. The children learned a lot of new information and really enjoyed their day.

The only one thing I would suggest is possibly having an activity that got the children moving earlier on in the day (they did not go outside until late afternoon) as a lot of the information required sitting and listening and the children got a little fidgety.

Other than this the children had a fantastic day, learnt lots of new information, were able to consolidate what they already knew and I would definitely recommend the workshop to others.

Thank you for visiting our school,

Sophie Wall.  Oct 2014

Roman Tour Sat 18th January 2014 at 12.00 noon

Dear Roman Tours

I did the tour on Saturday last with my nephew Charlie. Charlie is learning Latin at school at the moment and is interested in the Romans, so I thought a day in Chester would be good. In truth I was on the way to the Dewa exhibition when I passed your office by the Grosvenor Museum. I had looked for a walking tour on the internet and didn't think that there was one on that day. It was only by speaking to the man who was opening up at the time that I realised we could do a walking tour. So Charlie and I tweaked our plans and booked for the 12 o'clock tour with the staff via the tourist office. The tour was nothing short of brilliant, your Roman guard was helpful, knowledgeable, passionate about his subject and very patient with all the questions from the kids, it kept my attention all the way through too. Charlie and I loved it. I thought that you would appreciate the feedback. It is just so nice to see someone who clearly loves their job.

Can you pass on mine and Charlie's thanks to your Roman soldier.

Kind regards

Tess Lawrence and Charlie Hutchison

Tour on Wed 13th April 2011 at 3pm. 2 girls age 7 & 5 plus self and wife. I cannot stress enough how fantastic the tour was and give enough credit to our tour guide. Sadly I didn't get his name, which is partly because he was in full tour guide mode from the moment we stepped into your "office". Absolutely tremendous experience.... this is THE way History should be taught. Our guide was so engaging and knowledgeable and brilliant with the kids. Well done and thanks. It was the highlight of our week.

I am a leader for the People To People organization. I along with three other leaders and forty students were in Chester England on June 29. The tour was very entertaining and informative. Our guide was knowledgeable and on several occasions mixed humor and information in a very delighrful manner.

I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Chester in the future.

Hi Romans!

I thought I drop you a quick email to send my thanks to Paul for dealing so competently with Hypoglycaemic Tim yesterday, by the time someone had thought to let me know Paul had the situation under complete control!

I have tweeted your web address from our account (Rollapaluza) and I will link to your website from the results page that I am about to publish shortly. If you are still up for taking me around the sites of Chester tomorrow evening I would love it!

We came on a trip with our Year 3 children to the museum today. The children had a wonderful time and were very excited all day. They came home 'buzzing' about the whole experience.

From the second we walked through the door we were made to feel so welcome by every member of staff we met. The Gladiators were just fantastic and the children were so engaged and switched on during the tour. When we returned to the museum, staff were there to help and point out where things were and as the trip leader I felt incredibly well supported in providing an enriching, fun and safe experience for our children.

I would just like to say a huge thank you to all who helped us have a truly wonderful day! From the girls working on reception, in the shop, the education officer and all of the other very freindly, helpful staff that we met.

I will definately be recommending you to other staff and will return with future classes.

Thanks again - you are all fantastic!

Hello Paul

Can I please say a big thank you to you and Lance who came to Stratton school today. We all had such a lovely day and we could not have done this without the expertise of yourselves.

Many Thanks once again Sally Grace (Class 3 TA, Stratton School)

Saw you all at the Chester Festival and found it very enjoyable and educational. My son loved it so much we watched you all again on the Sunday in the pouring rain!!!

My husband and I (how very royal) were in Chester recently to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. How thrilled we were to encounter four 'genuine' Roman soldiers marching through the streets. We had a chat and photos, and all I can say is that it really made my day. The lads were a delight and really brought the history of Chester to life. We have made a promise to visit again to witness one your events in the amphitheatre. Keep up the good work.

Please thank Paul Harston for the best tour of ANYwhere we've had on this press trip ... there he was, melting in the sun, showing us Chester -- literally -- from the original ground up!

Romantoursuk were a major part of the Local and Community History Month programme that Staffordshire Library and Information Service undertook during September 2009. A range of events and activities took place in libraries across the length and breadth of the county, with thousands of people in attendance. Hundreds of people of all ages came along to meet the legionaries at open days in many of the county’s libraries, to see what it was like to live in the days of the Roman Empire. Feedback was universally good at all the venues, with everyone concerned having been both informed and entertained by the men from Romantoursuk. Ian Burley, Local Studies Librarian based at Tamworth Library said that the visit of Romantoursuk was a real highlight of the month, with people asking if they were returning the following year. Ian was pleased to confirm that they were. Thank you, Romantoursuk.

Kind regards, Ian.

Excellent! Children forgot the rain and totally immersed themselves in the experience. One of my little lads summed it up when he said, "I'm at the back and watching all the soldiers ahead of me, makes me think that we're going to conquer another tribe - marching and singing!"

Dear Paul

Thank you so much for a mesmerising two hours! Everyone on the walk enjoyed it and you have received high levels of praise! Entertaining, informative, terrifying at times but thoroughly enjoyable and I would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone. Your enthusiasm was contagious and we saw Chester in a different light - many of the group visited the shops you recommended to see for themselves the sites of Roman Chester! I have passed the same comments on to the Queen Hotel and Heathcotes!t.

Thank you also for my gift - a lovely reminder!

Best wishes,

Vicky Ellis
